In September 2008 international artist Claudia Losi will be exhibiting her Balena Project in Birmingham and as part of the process she has been invited by Ikon gallery to develop a number of art projects in Erdington.
Claudia has been working with local school children and members of Erdington Arts Forum to make work which responds to themes addressed by her ongoing practice.
The children made designs and drawings which are now being used as patterns to make 90 toy whales which they will take to meet Claudia's 25 metre long cashmere whale when it is exhibited in Birmingham this September.
A number of bursaries have been awarded to members of Erdington Arts Forum to make Balena inspired work and these projects are in progress. Jess Worley is leading a team to make the whales at the Ikon Tailor shop at 3, New Street, Erdington until August 30th. Pop along and test your sewing skills or just for a natter and see what’s going on.
This blog has been set up in order to document this process and we look forward to workng with Claudia & Claire Turner (Education officer - Ikon Gallery) as the project develops.
